📝 Founder’s Monthly Note

Welcome to the October Newsletter of the Elite College Insider.

October is when college soccer gets real. Conference races begin and tighten, bubble teams start doing math, and in a few weeks the NCAA tournament brackets will be revealed. But here is what most families miss: while everyone is watching the standings, next year’s recruiting calendar is quietly being written. Coaching staffs are finalizing their boards, locking in winter ID camp dates, and deciding which emails get answered the week their season ends. And of course, what should you be doing in recruitment now, and if you missed it, how do I watch college soccer games?

This month we deliver the deep dive we promised in last month's September Issue: the NIL clearinghouse rules that can reach back into high school. We also give you the complete scoreboard and rankings toolkit for the stretch run, the winter camp timeline, the offseason email window, and a “Why Don’t They Tell Us This Stuff?” topic that almost no family thinks about until it happens to them: what becomes of your player’s commitment when the coach who recruited them leaves.

Our mission is simple: to give your family a trusted monthly playbook filled with clear, honest, and actionable guidance straight from inside the college soccer world.

A Little Background On The Writer

Having seen the recruiting process from every single angle: as a former Division I player, a current 16-year NCAA head coach, a parent of college-bound athletes, and an MLS Next Academy Director, I know exactly what families wish they had known sooner. This membership removes the guesswork with better data, organized timelines, and honest insider insights.

Keeping It Interactive! You get to drive the conversation. Submit your toughest recruiting question through “Ask Coach.” If we feature it in an upcoming brief, your family gets the answer, other parents learn from it, and your player gets free Elite Merchandise.

🤔 Here’s Our Question Of The Month

My son is a junior. A local training facility offered him $750 to post workout videos wearing their gear on his Instagram. Everyone says NIL is legal now, but I don’t want this to cause a problem when he gets to college. Should he take it?

The complete answer is at the bottom of the newsletter.

📰 Missed September? Here It Is In 60 Seconds

Last month we opened the books on the two topics families whisper about most:

💰 The Money Is Stacked, Not Handed Out. “Full rides” are rare. Most families who pay a fraction of the sticker price get there by stacking academic merit, need-based aid, and a smaller athletic piece. We walked through a real line-item example where a 20% athletic offer became an 80% total discount.

👻 A Roster Spot Is Not A Force Field. Under 28-player roster caps, underclassmen get squeezed toward the portal with soft language. Knowing the difference between a verbal commitment, a written aid agreement, and a roster spot protects your family.

🍽️ Official Visits Evaluate The Whole Family. Your player is evaluated on the field. You are evaluated at the dinner table.

If you’re a member and missed it, the full September issue is waiting in your library. This month, we follow the money one step further: into high school.

📡 The Radar: What To Know This Month

This section turns national college soccer news into actionable parent takeaways to help families ask better questions and plan smarter.

👇 What We Are Breaking Down Below:

💸 The $600 Line: A few hundred dollars from a local sponsor feels harmless, and in most states it is perfectly legal. But the NCAA’s clearinghouse can reach back into a player’s high school years, and the clock starts earlier than almost any parent realizes. We explain exactly which deals count, when they have to be reported, the “associated entity” trap that can turn a harmless deal into a problem, and why Division III families need to think about NIL differently.

📺 The Stretch Run Toolkit: Where to check scores and rankings for every division, where to watch, key postseason dates for both men and women, and why your target schools’ November results will quietly reshape their recruiting needs in December.

⛺ Winter Camp Season Starts When The Whistle Blows: The moment a college season ends, coaches hit the road and open their camp doors. Here is the timeline, why this winter matters more than ever under roster caps, and when to register before the best events fill.

📬 The Offseason Email Window: There is a two-to-three-week window each fall when a well-timed email is most likely to get read. We show you when it opens for each division and give you the five-part email that gets answered.

💡 And in “Why Don’t They Tell Us This Stuff?” The Coaching Carousel. Coaching changes cluster right after the season, exactly when many families are committing. What happens to your player’s commitment, offer, and roster spot when the coach who recruited them walks out the door?

Article 1: 💸 The $600 Line: How NIL Rules Can Follow Your High Schooler To College

Every fall, somewhere in every soccer community, it happens. A local business, a training facility, a gear brand, or a family friend with a company offers a talented high school player a few hundred dollars to post content, appear in an ad, or wear their logo. It feels small. It feels harmless. And in most states, it is completely legal for a high schooler to accept.

Parents assume that anything their player does before college stays in high school. It doesn’t.

Here’s what almost nobody tells families: when a player enrolls at a Division I school, NIL paperwork doesn't start on move-in day. It starts years earlier, and the deal your player signs this fall may be one they have to disclose, in writing, to a national clearinghouse before they ever play a college minute.

Here is exactly how it works:
