📝 Founder’s Monthly Note

Welcome to the August Newsletter of the Elite College Insider.

We built this resource because we know firsthand how confusing, noisy, and overwhelming the college recruiting landscape can feel from the outside. As parents, you are constantly left trying to figure out what matters, what doesn’t, when the timeline actually begins, and how to properly guide your player without overstepping.

Our mission is simple: to give your family a trusted monthly playbook filled with clear, honest, and actionable guidance straight from inside the college soccer world. Right here, you will find everything you need to help your player navigate the road to college soccer with absolute confidence. Plus, we’ve included our signature “Why Don’t They Tell Us This Stuff?” section, a monthly deep dive designed to blow past the gatekeeping in the recruiting world.

A Little Background On The Writer

Having seen the recruiting process from every single angle- as a former Division I player, a current 16-year NCAA head coach, a parent of college-bound athletes, and an MLS Next Academy Director- I know exactly what families wish they had known sooner.

Keeping It Interactive! Even better: you get to drive the conversation! Submit your burning recruiting questions to our dynamic “Ask Coach.” If we feature your question in an upcoming monthly brief, you’ll win free Elite Merchandise. It’s the ultimate win-win: your family gets expert answers to your toughest questions, and your player scores premium gear in the process!

🙋‍♂️ Have a question for next month? Scroll Down To Ask!

Each month, we’ll answer at least one parent question publicly. Remember: Free Elite College Merchandise goes out to anyone whose question is featured in a future edition as long as you’re a subscriber!

📡 The Radar: What To Know This Month

This section turns national college soccer news into actionable parent takeaways to help families ask better questions and plan smarter.

👇 What We Are Breaking Down Below:

🧮 The New Roster Math: Coaches are quietly taking fewer recruits than ever, and most families won’t find out until the spot they were counting on disappears. We break down exactly how the House settlement’s roster caps changed the odds, why the walk-on path is vanishing at D1 while D3 plays by completely different rules, and the specific questions your family must ask a coach before falling in love with a school. Ask them the wrong question, or don’t ask at all, and you’re planning around a roster spot that may not exist.

🌎 The World Cup Halo Effect: The biggest tournament on earth just played out on American soil, and a player who was once an unrecruited walk-on ended up in goal on that stage. His path reveals something about the college pipeline that most recruiting “experts” get completely backward, and it changes how your family should think about level, logos, and where development actually happens.

🌍 The International Recruiting Debate Heats Up: A brand-new study counted over 7,000 roster spots to answer the question every parent whispers, but nobody says out loud: is my kid competing against the entire world for a spot?

📅 The 2026 Season Is Here, And It’s Historic: This fall is the last of its kind. A calendar change is coming that will quietly turn “which division fits my player” into a completely different question than it was a year ago, and families who understand it now will plan circles around the ones who find out later. We give you the key dates to circle and the one free scouting move to make before November.

Article 1: 🧮 The New Roster Math: Why Coaches Are Recruiting Fewer Players (And What It Means for Yours)

If your family has felt like coaches are slower to commit, pickier on film, and less willing to “take a flyer” on a developing player, you’re not imagining it. The House v. NCAA settlement fundamentally changed the arithmetic of recruiting, and the effects are now fully visible on the recruiting trail.

The old model: Division I programs carried big rosters padded with walk-ons. A coach could bring in 10–12 recruits per class, knowing that if half of them panned out, the class was a success. There was room to gamble on upside.

The new model: Opt-in schools must live under hard roster caps (women’s soccer sits at 28, and men’s rosters are similarly compressed). Every roster spot is now precious real estate. Coaches are recruiting smaller classes, often 5–6 players, and they need to hit on virtually every one. A missed evaluation isn’t a shrug anymore; it can cost a program a season and a coach their job security.

The trade-off nobody talks about:
